ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis) consists in the application (« applied ») of experimental research in the area of behavioural conduct.

ABA is a scientific approach, which can be applied both on an educational and on a therapeutic level. Concerned with the preservation of strong ethical grounds as well as transparency, ABA encompasses specific steps, individually adapted to every person.

ABA is all about the rules for setting up the correct environment and conditions to enable each kid to learn. PECS, PRT, VB, DTT represent examples of therapeutic, applied techniques directly derived from the scientific principles of behaviour analysis. They are carefully applied in the child’s natural environments and adapted to his or her particular competences and needs.

Cooper, Heron, and Heward (1987) define ABA as follows:

“Applied behavior analysis is the science in which procedures derived from the principles of behavior are systematically applied to improve socially significant behavior to a meaningful degree and to demonstrate experimentally that the procedures employed were responsible for the improvement in behavior.” (p. 14)
